GEORGIA O'KEEFFE by Christina Crowley

The artist I studied is Georgia O'Keeffe. My favorite painting by that artist is called "Oriental Poppies". I think it is colorful and different. I created my own painting inspired by this art. I call it "Blooming Flowers". My artist worked in New York and New Mexico in the 1900's. She also bought a tumble dosn ruin in New Mexico and turned it into a home and studio. She lived to be almost 100 years old.

GRANT WOOD by Jon, 5th grade

The artist I studied is Grant Wood. My favorite painting by Grant Wood is called "Door to the Alley". I create my own art inspired by this artist. My painting is called "The Safe". Grant Wood worked in Iowa during the Great Depression. He studied art in Chicago, Minneapolis and France.

MAGRITTE by Laudori, 5th grade

The artist I studied was Rene Magritte. My favorite painting by Rene Magritte is called "The Promise". I created my own masterpiece inspired by this artist. My painting is called "The Heart of the Sky". Magritte worked in France and Belgium in the 1900's and died in 1967. One thing that shocked me about Magritte is that his mother committed suicide in 1912 by drowning herself in the Sambre River.

FRIDA KAHLO by Billy, 5th grade

The artist I studied is Frida Kahlo. My favorite painting by that artist is called "The Wounded Stag". I created my own art inspired by this artist. My painting is called "The Wounded Sponge". Frida Kahlo worked in Mexico from 1907-1954. I think it is interesting that she said she painted all her eyebrows (in paintings) to look like bird's wings.

KEITH HARING by Jon, 5th grade

The artist I studied is Keith Haring. My favorite painting by that artist is called "Green and Red Man". I created my own painting inspired by this art called "Board Breaker". Keith Haring was an American artist who worked in the 1900's. His early work was graffiti in subways. His specialty was drawing stick figures of people.

VAN GOGH by Owen, 5th grade

The artist I studied is Vincent Van Gogh. My favorite painting by Van Gogh is "Starry Night". I created my own painting inspired by this work, called "Bright Night". My artist was Dutch and painted in the late 1800's. An odd thing about Van Gogh was that he used to eat paint. Sadly, he died because he shot himself with a pistol.

The artist I studied is Keith Haring. My favorite painting by this artist is called "Untitled". I created my own painting inspired by this artist. I call mine "Falling Man". My artist worked in the United States in the mid to late 1900's.

MATISSE by Kellie, 5th grade

The artist I studied is Henri Matisse. My favorite painting by that artist is called "The Swimming Pool". Ic reated my own painting inspired by this art called "The Colorful". Matisse was born in 1869. He started wanting to be an artist, but his father wanted him to be a lawyer. I'm glad he decided to be an artist.

KANDINSKY by Kaitlyn, 5th grade



The artist I studied is Wassily Kandinsky. My favorite painting by this artist is called "Munau with Church". I created my own painting inspired by this artist called "Miami House". Kandinsky was born December 4, 1866 in Russia. Later in his life he became a professor at a school of architecture and design in Germany.

KEITH HARING by Lexi J, 5th grade


My painting, titled "Too Many Pairs" was inspired by the artwork of Keith Haring. One of my favorite paintings of his is called "Untitled 1989". Keith Haring was born in Reading, Pennsylvania in 1958and worked in New York city in the late 1900's. Throughout his career, Keith Haring devoted much time to public works.

The artist that inspired me is Georgia O'Keeffe. My favorite painting by that artist is "Black Door with Snow". Her picture called "Red Hills with White Shells" inspired me to make my own painting, which I call "Purple Hills with Orange Shells". She painted in the United States in the 1900's. Georgia O'Keeffe lived to be almost 100 years old.

SEURAT by Christian, 5th grade

The artist I studied is Georges Seurat. My favorite painting by that artist is called "Line Fishermen". I created my own painting inspired by that artist called "Silent Waterfall". My artist worked in France in the late 1800's. I think my artist would be a great person to meet so that you could compare today's artist to those of the past.

The artist I studied is Keith Haring. My favorite painting by that artist is "Untitled". I created my own painting inspired by Haring called "Exploding Head". My artist worked in Pennsylvania and New York in the late 1900's. He started out as a subway grafitti artist.

The artist I studied is Van Gogh. My favorite painting by Van Gogh is "Starry Night". I created my own painting inspired by this artist, called "The Colors of Hope". My artist worked in Paris in the late 1800's. He died at 37 when he shot himself.

JASPER JOHNS by Mitchell, 5th grade

The artist I studied is Jasper Johns. My favorite painting by Johns is called "Flag". I created my own painting inspired by Johns' and it is called "The Flag of the United States of Mitchell" (God Bless the U.S.M.). My artist worked in the United States, specifically New York City, in the late 1900's. Something cool about Jasper Johns (or Seargent Johns) is that he served in the armed forces--he was in the Army.

GAUGIN by Nicholas, 5th grade

The artist I studied is Paul Gaugin. My favorite painting by that artist is called "Tahitian Landscape". I created my own painting inspired by this art, called "Monday on the Farm". My artist worked in Brittany and Tahiti in the late 1800's. His best friend was Vincent Van Gogh.

MIRO by Lexi, 5th grade

The artist I studied is Joan Miro. My favorite painting by that artist is called "Talking Alone". I created my own painting inspired by this art, called "The Alien". My artist worked in Spain and the United States in the early 1900's. I think it would be very cool to paint with him because he is very complex.

The artist I studied is Grant Wood. My favorite painting by Grant Wood is "This Could Be Anybody's Aunt, Sister, Mom or Friend". I created my own painting inspired by this artist. My painting is called "Going Someplace Special Tonight". Grant Wood was an American artist who painted in Anamosa, Iowa in the late 1900's. He studied art in Minneapolis, Chicago and Paris, but always came back to his rural roots.

HOKUSAI by Rene, 5th grade

The artist I studied is Katsuika Hokusai. My favorite painting by that artist is called "South Wind and Clear Sky". I created my own art inspired by this artist. My painting is called "The End of the World". Hokusai worked as a printmaker creating wood block paintings in the 1800's. He was Japanese.

PICASSO, by Ethan, 5th grade

The artist I studied is Picasso. My favorite painting by that artist is called "Doves". I created my own painting inspired by this artist called, "The Beach". My artist worked in Spain and France in the 1900's. Did you know that Pablo Picasso had a really long name? His full name is Pablo Diego Jose Francisco de Paula Juan Nepomuceno Maria de los Remedios Cipriano de la Santisima Trinidad Ruiz Picasso!

MATISSE by Fiona, 5th grade


The artist I studied is Matisse. My favorite painting by Matisse is called "Composition, Blue Background". I created my own painting inspired by this art. It is called "Rainbow Clovers". Matisse worked in France in the late 1800's and early 1900's. He lived to be 85 years old. Matisse found his life's dream of becoming an artist when he was a young man and was sick in bed. His mother gave him paints to pass the time and he painted and created art for the rest of his life.
